The Vendies: Last chance to enter!

To accommodate the high demand for entries, The Vendies, the prestigious awards scheme for the vending and water industries, has its extended its deadline to August 10.

The 2018 event has seen an unprecedented number of entries from manufacturers, suppliers and operators in the vending and water industries, promising one of the most exciting awards ceremonies to date.

Categories for manufacturers and suppliers to the vending industry include Best Machine Innovation, sponsored by Lavazza; Best Payment System, sponsored by Siemens; Best Beverage Brand; Best Snack/Confectionery Product or Service; Best New Supplier Website and Best Customer Service Award (Team Award).

Operators also have the chance to shine in the following categories: Best Regional Operator, sponsored by Abbeychart; Best National Operator; Best Area Manager; Best Overall Operator; Best Service Engineer; Best Route Engineer; Best Route Operator; Best Customer Service (Individual Award) and Best Operator Website, sponsored by Tower.

Commenting on the highly prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, publication and event manager Jenny Thompson says: “This special award will recognise an individual who has served the vending industry for more than 20 years and played a significant role in its success. We are calling on members of the vending industry give someone the recognition they deserve by nominating them for this award.

Nominees must be able to demonstrate the following: a clear commitment to working in the vending industry as a career; consistent application of good practice; examples of going the ‘extra mile’; excellence as a representative of the vending industry to the customer and wider business community; active membership of professional bodies and initiatives (associations, professional institutions, charities, etc) and a high level of respect amongst colleagues and peers.

The EDWCA Customer Service Award; the Supplier Recognition Award; Innovation Recognition Award and the Outstanding Contribution Award, sponsored by the EDWCA meanwhile, will shine a light on the important work of companies and individuals within the water industry.

“If your focus has always been on people and you fully understand the value that your employees give to your customers then quite simply you should nominate them for the EDWCA Customer Service Award. It’s your people that help to build your business, so why not say thank you?,” says the EDWCA’s Tracy Corroll, adding: “It’s the same if you have a supplier that gives you not only the products you require but the support by sourcing your end-users endless requests and do this whilst giving your business great customer service, why not nominate them for the EDWCA Supplier Recognition Award and thank the sometimes unsung heroes.

“Innovation is always at the forefront of industry whether it be a self-cleaning tap, equipment that provides all types of water/beverages to a simple fitting that can increase our productivity. So where do we look for this? We look to our manufacturers and suppliers to continually challenge both the industry and the perception. The EDWCA embraces and encourages change and the EDWCA Innovation Recognition award is its way of thanking and encouraging these companies to continue moving the industry forwards. If you know a company that meets this simple criteria, why not nominate them today?

Commenting on the Outstanding Contribution Award, the equivalent of the Lifetime Achievement Award in the water categories, Tracy says: “Many businesses and industries are built on firm foundations allowing for growth and progress to be driven on. The water cooler industry is no different. Over the years we have a number of characters that have helped to shape the way we do things and how our industry is perceived. There are those that lead from the front and stride forward taking many of us along for the ride and then there are those that counter the bold innovators and work studiously in the background making very little wave with their unmistakable impact! We all know who these people are!

“The EDWCA would like to thank these pioneers from the resounding to the hushed and that is why we are asking you…the water cooler fraternity…to recognise and nominate these individuals for the EDWCA Outstanding Contribution Award. Without these small acorns our oak tree could not have grown.”

Two industries, working together to improve the customer experience

The vending industry’s most prestigious awards programme – The Vendies – will run in conjunction with the EDWCA’s new Business Day and Trade Show on 2 October 2018 at the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club, Birmingham: two industries, working together, to provide an even better service.

Water coolers and bottled water have been integrated into all aspects of our public and private lives, as the health and lifestyle benefits of sufficient hydration are recognised. Drinks like coffee, tea and juices also help to replenish vital fluids and the quality of the water content is Key to the consumer’s enjoyment of it.

Water and vending are, therefore, intrinsically linked, which is why the EDWCA (European Drinking Water Cooler Association) has again teamed up with Vending International publisher and Vendies organiser, Datateam Business Media to hold its new 2018 Business Day & Trade Show alongside the Awards event in October. By coming together to talk to customers, it is hoped that buyers of these products and services will be able to make even better choices in the future.

The Business Day & Trade Show has been designed to flow from the morning, through to The Vendies in the evening. From the Speakers Programme, to the Trade Show (which will feature exhibitors from both the water and vending industries) and the Round-Table discussions, it has been driven by a desire to provide opportunities for education and networking. Manufacturers, suppliers, operators and end users all stand to benefit from the water, coffee and vending industries uniting at these hotly anticipated day and evening events.

Over 50% of space is already booked for the Trade Show and there is no doubt it will be a sell-out, with prospective exhibitors from both the water and vending industries showing an unprecedented level of interest.  The Business Day & Trade Show also has support from H20 Direct, AA First and MTN Products as sponsors.

From a delegate point of view, attending The EDWCA Business Day & Trade Show is a must. The full day of activities is free to EDWCA members, with a 10% discount on tickets to The Vendies. And while entry to the trade show is free to non-members, with the full day package priced at just £25 with lunch and refreshments included, it’s more cost effective to attend the talks and round-table discussions too!

With the first of four speakers recently announced the entire day is shaping up to become a firm favourite in the industry calendar in the coming years and with spaces now becoming limited, early registration is recommended.

Vegas themed fun at The Vendies

Providing further opportunities for networking, The Vendies, will take place at the same venue in the evening, with an exciting Las Vegas theme to boot.

Hot off the heels of its appearance on BBC1’s The One Show in 2017, The Vendies has already secured strong sponsor backing, with SB Software, Lavazza, Siemens Financial Services, Abbey Chart, Fererro, Tower and the EDWCA all putting their name to the event.

“With categories for vending operators, manufacturers and suppliers to the vending and water industries, as well as the hardworking individuals within them, entering The Vendies is a way to demonstrate your company’s achievements to a dedicated audience of industry professionals,” says event and publication manager Jenny Thompson.

There is also the opportunity to nominate other companies and individuals for an award, something which is very important says EDWCA vice chair David Albers: “Our industry is relatively small, and with business relationships built up over many years. However, this is the opportunity to nominate and say ‘thank you’ to your operators or suppliers, as well as your team, for making this industry such a great place to work.”
